Meet our Staff
Ben Loos, Senior Pastor
Pastor Ben, after graduating from Reformed Theological Seminary in 2008, has been blessed to serve at Grace Chapel in his hometown of Lincoln for the last 7 years. Ben is married to his wonderful bride Katie, and is the proud father of son, Abel and daughter Elanor. Being a father to Abel and Elanor and a partner to Kate is Ben’s deepest source of earthly joy.
Ben enjoys good drink, good company, good books, bad sci-fi films, fantasy literature, role-playing games, Nebraska Football, and Rock and Roll. He is convinced that Bruce Springsteen's 1975 classic Thunder Road is a near perfect rock song and considers Miles Davis, Bono, Dylan, and John Coltrane to be some of his closest friends. Still, the song that has captured his heart and rules his life is the gospel of Jesus Christ and His Kingdom and Ben longs for that day when all of creation will take that sweet song upon it's lips: "Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice: and let men say among the nations, The Lord reigns! Let the sea roar, and roar, and the fullness thereof: let the fields rejoice, and all that is within them. Then shall the trees of the wood sing out at the presence of the Lord, because he comes to judge the earth.” Psalm 96
Steve Allen, Pastor
Steve was called as Assistant Pastor of Grace Chapel in June 2014. He received his bachelor’s degree in Advertising from The University of Nebraska in 2000 and his Masters of Divinity from Covenant Theological Seminary in May of 2007. Steve is husband to his wonderful wife Jennifer who received her bachelor’s degree in Nursing from the University of Nebraska in 1999 and her Graduate Certificate in Theological Studies from Covenant Theological Seminary in May of 2007. They have three children. Their oldest, Amelia, stands face to face with her Savior Jesus as she passed away- June 30th, 2016- just 9 years old. Amelia is greatly missed. Jen and Steve also have two boys, Miles (12/22/08) and Rhodes (3/30/15). Steve enjoys running, reading, design and watching most things Discovery Channel. (He secretly believes that someday he will find himself in a dicey situation that will require mad surviving skills). Jen enjoys her job as a Registered Nurse, works hard at caring for the boys, and making copious amounts of food for whomever walks through the front door. Miles is the tender lion- full of energy and laughter and yet willing to help those in need. Rhodes has a big heart and doesn’t know a stranger. He showers us with much joy.
Brian Brown, RUF Campus Minister
Brian Brown was born and raised in Birmingham, AL, and graduated from Auburn University in 1997. After graduation, he spent 9 years as an accountant before being called to Covenant Theological Seminary, in St. Louis, MO, where he received a Master of Divinity (M.Div.) in May of 2013. Brian became husband to his wonderful wife Rebecca in December of 2000. Rebecca was born in Ruston, LA, and received her undergraduate degree in Occupational Therapy from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Brian and Rebecca are blessed to be the parents of four fabulous children: Sarah Frances born in 2002, Catherine born in 2004, Patrick born in 2006, and Lillian born in 2008. Together they enjoy athletics, family movie nights and anything in and around water. They moved to Lincoln the summer of 2014 for Brian’s call as the RUF Campus Minister at the University of Nebraska and are excited to worship, serve, and hang out with UNL students.
Crystal Davy, Director of Music Ministries
Crystal Davy has been the director of music ministries at Grace Chapel since 2006. She completed a degree in Secondary Spanish Education from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln in 2005. Crystal was born in Mexico to missionary parents. Her family moved to Norfolk, Nebraska in 2000 where she graduated from high school. While still very foreign at heart, Crystal has grown to love the plains and the people who have built deep community here in Nebraska.
Crystal is wife to the incomparable Ben Davy. They have three children, Addison (5/08), Nora (2/10) and Solomon (12/14). She enjoys music, reading, walks in the neighborhood and strangers. One of her greatest joys is the experience of praising God with His people.
Chris Tran, Youth Director
Chris was born in the great state of Nebraska and raised in this fair city of Lincoln. He has lived in Lincoln for the entirety of his life and enjoyed it immensely. His education began at Ruth Hill Elementary and he graduated in 2008 with a degree in Family Science and a minor in Sociology from UNL.
Chris married in 2008 to his beautiful wife Brittany (they met through the college ministry Navigators). A month and a half after their wedding, they were SURPRISED and blessed to know that Brittany was pregnant! Chris and Brittany now have two children: Asher and Campbell. Their lives would not be as joyful and connected without their incredible children!
As the youth director, Chris welcomes middle and high school students that attend Grace Chapel or students who have never stepped foot in the doors of a church building on Sundays. He directs a morning education time for our middle and high school students at 10a in the church office.
Brook Talsma, Office Administrator
Brook first called Grace Chapel home in 2003, but left in 2008 to pursue a Master’s in Counseling from Covenant Theological Seminary in St. Louis, MO. She returned to Grace Chapel in 2015 to fill the role of Office Administrator.
Brook enjoys a blazing fire pit with friends, and sipping on a variety of drinks that will keep the blood warm and the conversation flowing. She also loves film and fiction, and any medium that tells a good story. She can walk for miles with her dogs and a good friend for conversation.
Jane Gronewold, Administrative Assistant
A longtime Nebraska girl, Jane grew up in Kearney. She attended UNL where she studied journalism and communications. During her senior year she surrendered her heart completely to Christ. In 1985 she moved to Omaha and also began dating Russ. They were married in 1986 and their family includes Caleb, Anna, Sara, Becca and son-in-law Drew. After 25 years in Omaha, the Gronewolds moved to Lincoln in 2010 and started attending Grace Chapel in 2011.
Jane loves long walks, good conversation, fresh coffee and hot popcorn. Family, friends and cooking bring her joy along with helping out part time in the Grace Chapel office. One of her favorite verses is Proverbs 3:5-6, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him and he will make straight your paths."
